The 2020 USA Volleyball Indoor National Championships, including the Girls 18s, Girls and Boys Junior National Championships (GJNC, BJNC, respectively) and High Performance Championships, have been canceled due to COVID-19. USA Volleyball posted an official statement on Wednesday afternoon through the TeamUSA website:
“It is with a heavy heart that USA Volleyball must announce the cancellation of the remaining USA Volleyball Indoor National Championships for the 2020 season. This includes the Girls 18s Junior National Championship, Girls Junior National Championship, Boys Junior National Championship and High Performance Championship. With safety as our top priority and upon further evaluation of the current and projected status of the COVID-19 virus in each of our respective cities, we cannot be assured of each venue's ability to host safe and restriction-free environments for our events in June and July.”
The decision comes just days after USA Volleyball cleared teams to resume activities. Some clubs opened back up with small practices, anticipating the National Championships would still occur despite the cancellation last week of all major qualifiers left for the 2020 club volleyball season. However, it became clear the tournaments could no longer happen once Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center - the host venue in Dallas for the GJNC - removed all scheduled activities until July 14th.
